We are a medium-sized, owner-managed production company for steel and metal construction in Recz, in north-west Poland, about two hours’ drive north-east of Berlin. Around 30 employees produce, plan and manage the Sumara company and its products. The company was founded in the 1990s by Andrzej Sumara. The current managing director is Maciej Sumara, the second generation of the family business.
The company form “Sp. z o.o.” characterises the Polish equivalent of a British “Ltd.“.
We work for clients from various European countries and regularly deliver products to Germany, France, the Netherlands and Austria.
We establish organisational measures to monitor and improve our process quality, work quality and product quality. To this end, we are guided by ISO 9001 and the EFQM model. We are modelled on the principles of lean production. We are working on systematically integrating these into our day-to-day work.
Close and long-term co-operation with our customers is important to us. We are constantly developing ourselves and the products we manufacture for the success of our customers. The requirements of our partners are an integral part of the way we work.
We believe in openness, appreciation and mutual respect. We are grateful for praise and criticism. We look out for each other and stand together.
We promote the personal responsibility and qualifications of our employees.
If we look back over the past 30 years, it becomes clear that continuous improvement is what has driven us every day. We will maintain this motivation for the future – in small and large steps, and at all levels of the company.

Some of our long-standing employees will remember: the beginning was difficult.
The Sumara family fled from Poland to Germany in the 1980s and returned after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Poland was not yet part of the EU until 2004. Seemingly self-evident things such as heating, transport and purchasing materials were always a challenge. Many things had to be improvised.
Andrzej Sumara‘s imagination and vision gave the company the ability to overcome major challenges. However, it also needed the stoic perseverance and technological focus of Maciej Sumara to grow into a stable and modern company. Michał Sumara, his brother, is always ready to contribute technical expertise in the background.
We are happy to face the future in a united Europe. We are gearing Sumara’s company towards growth, particularly in the areas of digital processes and computer-controlled production.
